Previous Project
The first exhibit representing the past is an austere basement featuring long illuminated boxes filled with artifacts of war. Thousands of red handprints cover the walls and reach up onto clerestory windows. Each handprint represents about 5,000 indigenous lives lost across the U.S. due to American Colonialism based on estimates published in the Oxford Press.
